Social Networking : The Islamic Perspective

Sheikh ul Islam, Mufti Ismael Menk, speaks about the challenge of preaching in today's world, and social networking as a tool. It is so controversial that non-Muslims are also engaging  Muslims about their use of the internet and modern technology or apps, etc, as to the permissibility of these vis a vis Islamic teachings.

Technology

You should keep pace with the technology, but you don't have to buy every new model or phone that comes out. I still use a simple mobile, after my child wet my Iphone, which was a gift. I am not consumed with the desire to have a new modern phone. These are tools, don't be consumed by desire for them. Especially if all you are doing with them, esp. speaking to the Muslims, but anyone who might believe his/her status and worth depends to any degree on what they own of material things, spending too much time on activities which serve no purpose and have not benefits, for the hereafter or even this life!

Tattoos

The ink drawings on the human body are forbidden in Islam. There is a limit to the freedom which Allah permits; we have to choose wisely, thinking before we act, or we will surely fall into sins.
Do you want to fit in? Do you think you will be happy if you do? Maybe you have to work on your personal character, starting with the inside.

There are many things which we might do, which we will learn to regret. So think before you act.

Google+

Am I better without social networking? Who are my friends? What are my goals? What am I doing?

Fatwa

Did you hear what the sheikh has said? You don't have to ask anyone else again, if you listened to this video.

Have a nice day!
