Islamic Prayer – Part One

When the Prophet, SAWS, demonstrated to the Muslims the prayer and one time (what to do if one forgets how many units one has prayed; he was teaching only; he prayed two additional units and then performed the prostration to correct the prayer (two successive prostrations done at a normal speed). The Muslims asked if the prayer had been changed, to which he answered no, nor had he forgotten the number of units he had prayed.

Essential to Islamic monotheism is the belief in the Prophets (their guidance is necessary and their people are obliged to follow them), belief in angels, the revealed Books, the Day of Judgment, and the Unseen (the Ghraib), and belief in Qadr (Predestination, the good or evil thereof).

Thus Muslims perform the prayers the way that the Prophet Muhammad taught, and it is not permissible to change the form of the prayers, the time or place of the prayers. There are certain allowances for travelers, such as shortening of some prayers, or combining the time of one prayer with another prayer’s time so that the traveler or sick people are not harmed, or overburdened. All others must perform the obligatory five daily prayers, in their correct time and place, and according to the Sunna of the Prophet Muhammad, SAWS.
